There Is No Runner-up

Although I am under no illusions of my own lack of specific sporting prowess , I do really enjoy watching the Olympics and seeing all the different games. A post could easily be written on each of the specific events and one the Olympics itself but the thing that has really  caught my attention is the fact that on the medal podium 2nd and 3rd  place are both the same height , with only the Gold medal being elevated higher than the other two.

I googled why it is like this  and the I.O.C say its to do with it encouraging the Silver and Bronze competitors to “..look each other in the eye and strive harder …” as nice as this sounds , to me personally the reason that they are not raised is because they are not winners- yes it  would be incredible to even appear at the Games never mind win a Bronze or Silver medal , but overall these medals are no comparison to winning Gold.
In the History books it is the Gold medal winners that are remembered and are the ones that have the most fame and hold almost all the records.

In terms of eternity it is no different , its nice to live a good life and do lots of nice things and end up with  nice bronze or silver medal round your neck , but only those who win the race can cross the finishing line into  heaven :
“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it.” – 1 Corinthians 9:24

Only those who finish with Gold can hope to enter Heaven , but because God is perfect he requires a perfect race in order to award that  medal. We all fall in our race of life go down the wrong routes and take paths that we know will lead us further from the finish line, but we know that although we go down wrong paths if we love God and give all we have to follow him  he will sort that out for us :
“In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths”- Proverbs 3:6

If then you are finding every day hard to run , barely struggling to the end of every night – the problem may well be that you are trying to Run the race with out  the one who knows your body and knows the race track better than anyone else.

If we ran it by our own efforts We would finish the race in a broken , slow and failed crawl. But if we cry out to God to save us , Believe  in him and truly love him he will walk with us every step of the race and at the end will give us that Gold medal, that special prize.

Jesus has already run the race for you and is waiting for you to turn to him so he can give you that medal that you need, dont waste any more time , your race might end sooner than you think and leave you with a result and with a medal that will leave you out of the winners podium.
