“Blessed are the people who know the festal shout, who walk, O LORD, in the light of your face” Psalm 89 Verse 15, Part 1
There is no way that I in any way can do Justice to this psalm and to this verse or to the true and amazing message that is at its core. But God willing I am going to try something a bit different for the next two days, and do a two part look at Verse 15 of Psalm 89
Firstly looking at the first segment of the verse ” Blessed are the people who know the festal shout”. Looking at the word Festal in the original language one of the most common translations is “רוּעַ” it means to blow trumpets and make a sound as a result of a victory, so it could also be “…who know the victory shout.”
So what is this victory shout , this shout of celebration ? And Why are these people blessed ?
God through-out the bible has provided his people with many victories, in the Old testament he provided his people the children of Israel with victories over all their enemies (as long as they trusted in him and loved him)
And they gave him thanks for every victory he provided them with.
But in the New testament God provides his people with an altogether more incredible victory. Because of our incessant and willing sin that we continually committed We cut ourselves away from God. But God in his love offered us a Saviour a way through which we could become right with him again. This perfect and willing saviour is Jesus , he offered himself to come down to earth and become one of us , feel sadness ,pain and sorrow and die all for us.
But it doesnt end there if he had just died then im wasting my time writing this we might as well close all the churches and bin all the bibles if all Jesus did was die.
God raised him from the dead after 3 days, and because Jesus was raised from the dead he went against the pattern of death and we have the assurance that if we are his and we love him , then we can be sure that one day we will rise again with him. And this is the true reason for this “festal shout” , this shout of victory.
If we love Jesus and if he is our Lord and Saviour then we have the promise of eternal life and eternal love , and if that is not a reason to celebrate ; you will find no other.
